Enchanting in the level-30 slot spends 3 levels — 306 points (30 → 27), versus only 27 points at level 3. Spend levels while they are cheap to refill.

How it works

Levels are not worth the same amount of XP. Each level needs more points than the one before: 7 points for level 1, 37 for level 16, 112 for level 31 — and the cost keeps climbing.

The total for any level follows one of three formulas depending on the band (0–16, 17–31 and 32+). That is why going from 0 to 30 takes 1,395 points but 30 to 60 takes 7,275 more.

Anvils and enchanting tables charge levels, not points, so spending levels while you are low is cheaper. Dying drops at most 7 × your level points (capped at 100), so a big XP bank is easy to lose.

How many XP points is level 30?

1,395 points from level 0. Enchanting at level 30 then spends 3 levels — 306 points, because the levels you lose are the expensive top ones.

How much XP to go from level 30 to 31?

112 points. From 31 to 32 it is 121 points, and every level above that costs 9 more than the last.

Is it better to enchant at level 30 or wait?

Enchant as soon as you reach 30. Higher levels don't improve the enchantment, and each extra level costs more XP to earn.

What is the maximum level?

Total experience is a 32-bit number, which runs out at 2,147,483,647 points — level 21,863. This calculator stops there.
