Enchanting Table Odds Calculator
Java & BedrockChoose an item, its material and how many bookshelves surround the table to see the exact chance of every enchantment and level in each slot — computed from the game's own algorithm, not guessed from samples.

Your table is seeded per player, so the same item shows the same offers until you enchant something. These are the odds across all seeds — the hint on the table shows one of the rolled enchantments.
How it works
Bookshelves set the levels shown on the three slots (up to 30 with 15 shelves). The game then turns the slot level into a hidden “power” by adding a random bonus based on the item's enchantability and nudging it up or down by as much as 15%.
Every enchantment the item can get from the table has a power range per level. All that fit the power are candidates; the game draws one by its weight (common ones like Protection or Efficiency weigh 10, rare ones like Silk Touch weigh 1), then keeps drawing more with a chance that shrinks each time.
This calculator walks through every one of those random outcomes and adds up the exact probabilities. Gold gear's high enchantability gives more extra enchantments; books can get anything but drop one if they roll several.
Mending, Frost Walker, Soul Speed, Swift Sneak, Wind Burst and the curses are treasure enchantments: they never come from the table.
Formulas
- Slot base (b = bookshelves ≤ 15)
- base = 1 + rand(0..7) + ⌊b/2⌋ + rand(0..b)
- Slot levels
- top = max(⌊base/3⌋, 1) · middle = ⌊2·base/3⌋ + 1 · bottom = max(base, 2b)
- Hidden power (e = enchantability)
- L = level + 1 + rand(0..⌊e/4⌋) + rand(0..⌊e/4⌋); power = round(L × (1 + (r₁ + r₂ − 1) × 0.15))
- More enchantments
- while rand(0..49) ≤ power: pick another compatible one; power = ⌊power / 2⌋
FAQ
How many bookshelves do I need for level 30?
15. With 15 bookshelves one block away from the table (and nothing in between) the bottom slot always shows level 30.
Can I get Mending from an enchanting table?
No. Mending is a treasure enchantment — get it from villager trades, fishing or loot chests, then apply the book with an anvil.
Why does gold gear get more enchantments?
Gold has the highest enchantability (25 for armor, 22 for tools), which raises the hidden power. Higher power means more candidates at higher levels and a better chance of extra enchantments.
Is it accurate for Bedrock Edition?
Switch the edition to Bedrock for Bedrock's eligible enchantments: axes can roll Sharpness, Smite and Bane of Arthropods, maces Fire Aspect, Smite and Bane, every armor piece Thorns, and there is no Sweeping Edge. The Minecraft Wiki only documents one table algorithm, so Bedrock odds reuse it and are marked approximate.
Why do I keep seeing the same enchantments?
Each player has an enchanting seed that only changes when you actually enchant something. Enchant a cheap item (or a book in slot 1) to reroll the offers.
